As I look back on the time on Harwood it was everything you expect as an Ensign--good bad and ugly, but carried lessons through a career in intelligence and in the naval reserve. Like a bunch of ex-Haroodies I made 0-5; I retired from spoookdom in 2004(DIA/CIA/NIC/DHS/NGA and lots of other turkeys!) Teach on line IT ethics policy and law at UMUC. I too remember the storm and the wave--I was on the bridge when it hit and remember watching the clinometer and wishing the ship didn't have the FRAMII top hamper, but she righted herself anyway. You were right Bob Marshall was a hell of a seaman--I remember him saying we were going to ride this out like a surfboard and would be ok once we got into the eye and stayed there. I also remember the 31 days on Bravo station and a few more things which have assumed the proportion of sea stories...fair winds and following seas to all Toby Philbin, CDR USNR (ret)
