Wednesday, September 22nd

 

1500—Welcome mat is out and registration begins.  Hospitality room opens on the second floor.  Relax, get acquainted with old friends and make new ones.  Tell sea stories, have a soda, coffee and unwind.  Dinner is on your own and is available in the motel restaurant.  NO ALCHOLOIC BEVERAGES IN THE HOSPITALITY ROOM.  There is a lounge in the motel for your enjoyment.

 

Thursday, September 23rd

 

Breakfast is on your own and available in the motel restaurant.

 

0800---Hospitality room opens with fresh coffee, soda & snacks

 

0900—Tour leaves motel for the Naval War College, Newport Naval Station, where we will be attending a briefing on the following activities at the NWC: the academic program, Maritime History and we are also going to get a look and tour of the war gaming department to see the training that is given to attending students.  Depending on the length of the presentations, there may be time to visit the Naval War College Museum.  The above can be deleted or more activities can be added, depending on what officer or officers are available.  But also remember all of this will be dependent on the security of the Naval Station and War College at the time of our reunion.   Firm information will be available when you arrive in Newport.

 

Lunch will be at the Naval Station Officer’s Club and will be a Deli Buffet, consisting of the following

 

New England Clam Chowder - Baked Ham - Turkey Breast - Roast Beef

Sliced American & Swiss Cheese – Lettuce & Tomato – Assorted Breads & Rolls

Condiments – Potato Salad – Cole Slaw – Complete Coffee Service – Assorted Cookies

 

1330---Tour leaves the “O” Club for the stunning Ocean Drive and Bellevue Avenue with homes of the rich and famous.  A guided tour of the famous Breakers Mansion is included.  Fee for this tour, which includes the War College, lunch and entrance to the mansion, gratuities for the driver and tour guide, is $52.00 per person.

 

1830---Meet in the motel dining room for a Deluxe Dinner buffet consisting of the following:

 

Roast Prime Rib of Beef Au Jus Carved by the Chef

Baked Stuffed Scrod with Newburg Sauce

Baked Stuffed Breast of Chicken

Roasted Red Bliss Potatoes – Fresh Vegetable of the Day

Caesar Salad – Tossed Green Salad, Choice of Dressings

Assorted Desserts

Coffee -- Tea -- Decaf

This meal will be $26.00 per person, taxes and gratuities included.

 

 

Friday, September 24th

 

Breakfast is on your own and available in the motel restaurant.

 

0700—For those wishing to golf, we have the Exeter Country Club about 40 minutes from the motel.  The fee of $65.00 includes 18 holes and golf cart. Lunch is on your own.

 

0900—Tour bus leaves for our historic Boston tour, the “Birthplace of the American Revolution”.  Highlights of this city tour include the Old State House, Beacon Hill, the USS Constitution (Old Ironsides) and a view of Harvard University. Remember that the USS Constitution is NOT handicap available. After the tour of the Ironsides, there will be free time to enjoy lunch and shopping at the world famous Quincy Market.  In the afternoon, we will visit the JFK Library and Museum and learn about the 35th president of the United States.  Step back in time to a world of the 1960’s through dramatic exhibits including rare television footage, personal family keepsakes and gifts from throughout the world.

 

The price of this tour is $36.00. Which includes museum admission and gratuities for driver and tour guide.   Lunch is on your own in the Quincy Marketplace.

 

1700—Return to the Mainstay and supper is on your own either in the Motel dining room or across the street in the Newport Grand Slots with plenty of machines for your enjoyment.

 

Saturday, September 25th

 

Breakfast is on your own and is available in the motel dining room.

 

0800—Hospitality room opens with fresh coffee, soda and snacks.

 

Choice of Two activities during the day.

 

#1—Tour to Battleship Cove.  Please refer to the enclosed brochure for details.  The price of this tour is $37.00, which includes your lunch on board the battleship Massachusetts, and a tour of the capital city, Providence, Rhode Island.  Again, remember we are visiting naval vessels, and moving around on the ships will be difficult if you are handicapped.

 

#2---Tour to the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut.  Price of this tour is $22.00, but includes a $10.00 food coupon and a $10.00 betting certificate.  The tour people will hand these out before arriving at the casino.  This casino is one of the largest in the world and includes 30 restaurants, plenty of places to shop and a planetarium dome blanketing the entire casino.  There are also over 6000 slot machines and many different gaming tables.

 

Both of these tours will depart at 0900 and return to the Mainstay by 1630. Prices include gratuity for drivers and tour guides.

 

1800—Begin to load our cars for transportation to the Officer’s Club on Naval Station, Newport.  We have been given special permission to drive on the base with our private vehicles and go directly to and from the Officer’s Club. 

 

 

The banquet meal will be as follows:

Boneless Honey Lemon Chicken

Baked Manicotti

Baby Carrots with Honey and Dill

Broccoli with Hollandaise

Oven Roasted Potatoes seasoned to perfection

Carrot Cake

Cost of this meal is $42.00 and includes gratuity.  A cash bar will be available for our activity.

 

 

Sunday September 26th

 

0830 to 1030 Breakfast buffet consisting of the following:

Pancakes

Home fries

Sausage and Bacon

Homemade Muffins

Coffee, Tea, Decaf

 

Cost of this meal is $15.00, which includes tip and taxes.
